The Adelphi Hotel Engagement Session in Saratoga Springs | Annie & Mac

Annie and Mac are the kind of couple that makes Saratoga Springs engagement photography feel completely effortless. There is a tangible ease between them, a laid-back, playful energy that translates beautifully on camera. They don’t need direction to lean into one another or share a laugh; they just do it. When couples possess that natural chemistry, my job shifts from directing to documenting. The goal becomes capturing the genuine, unforced way they move through a space together. For Annie and Mac, that space began at the iconic The Adelphi Hotel and ended chasing the sunset at Saratoga Spa State Park.

Capturing Effortless Connections

Authenticity is the heartbeat of great photography. Annie and Mac’s session was a masterclass in staying present. They weren’t focused on the camera; they were focused on each other. This is exactly what we aim for during an engagement session. It isn’t about perfect poses or stiff smiles; it’s about the quiet moments in between.

Because they are planning their wedding at The Adelphi Hotel for the Fall of 2026, starting their engagement session at the same venue was a poetic choice. It allowed us to explore the space in a relaxed setting, creating a narrative bridge between their engagement and their upcoming wedding day.

The Adelphi Hotel Engagement Session: Historic Luxury

The Adelphi Hotel is a cornerstone of Saratoga Springs history, and it serves as a stunning backdrop for photography. Its architecture blends Victorian opulence with modern luxury, offering a variety of textures and lighting scenarios that elevate any portrait session.

We began the session with drinks at Morrissey’s Lounge. There is something incredibly classic about a couple sharing a cocktail in such a well-designed space. It allows for candid moments to unfold organically. The clink of glasses, the shared jokes, the relaxed posture—these are the details that tell the story of a relationship.

Moving through the hotel, we utilized some of their favorite spots. The interiors of The Adelphi provide a sophisticated atmosphere that complemented Annie and Mac’s style perfectly. By mixing these environmental portraits with spontaneous moments, we created a gallery that feels both high-end and deeply personal.

Golden Hour Photography at Saratoga Spa State Park

After wrapping up at The Adelphi, we transitioned to Saratoga Spa State Park to catch the end of the day. If The Adelphi represents historic sophistication, the State Park represents the natural, timeless beauty of Upstate New York.

The timing was impeccable. We arrived just as golden hour began to weave its magic through the trees. Golden hour photography is often discussed in the photography world, and for good reason. The light during this window of time—just before the sun dips below the horizon—is warm, dimensional, and soft. It wraps around subjects, creating a glow that is impossible to replicate with artificial lighting.

We were literally chasing the light as the sun started to drop. There is an exciting energy to shooting during these final minutes of daylight. We moved quickly, laughing and running to grab those fleeting moments before the sun disappeared completely.

The Emotional Impact of Light

Light is more than just a technical requirement for a photo; it is an emotional tool. The golden light at the park added a layer of warmth and romance to Annie and Mac’s photos. It makes everything feel just a little bit more magical without trying too hard.

The contrast between the indoor, architectural vibe of the Adelphi Hotel engagement session and the open, organic feel of the State Park gave Annie and Mac a diverse collection of images. One half of the session feels intimate and moody, while the other feels expansive and free.

Looking Toward Fall 2026

Capturing this engagement session has made me even more excited for Annie and Mac’s wedding. Returning to The Adelphi Hotel in the fall of 2026 will be a full-circle moment for them.

If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day will be filled with genuine laughter, effortless style, and deep connection. I am already looking forward to documenting the next chapter of their story in Saratoga Springs.
