“All dressed up and nowhere to go.” That’s what was going through my mind just hours before Paul proposed. Growing more anxious by the minute because none of my phone calls were returned, I later found out it was because my finance had taken my parents out to ask for my hand in marriage. At the time my patience could take no more, Paul called telling me he was on his way. We were soon on our way to a romantic dinner that I will never forget.
Three courses done and dessert on its way, Paul excused himself to a long break for “fresh air”. He returned and after paying the bill led me off to the adjoining lodge and stopped outside of room 223. He explained that his break for “fresh air” was actually to put the finishing touches on the room. The door opened and I saw countless tea lights scattered throughout the room. Paul led me through the room which was decorated with pictures, postcards, letters and mementos. He then made me close my eyes and guided me further. When I opened my eyes I saw him down on one knee…
Our love grew in the fresh air and wide open spaces. We have spent countless weekends on his family’s farm doing everything from baling hay, working with the cows, taking long afternoon walks, and lying in the field counting the stars until a cool nights dew settled on our blanket. Down the road from the family farm we have purchased a house and look forward to making it a home together.
