There’s a special kind of magic that settles over Lake George just before a wedding. For Jordan and Matt, that magic began with an incredible rehearsal dinner aboard the Adirondack. It was the perfect kickoff to their wedding weekend. The night was spent surrounded by the stunning scenery of the lake and the warmth of their closest family and friends. The evening promised beautiful moments, and it certainly delivered.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I find that rehearsal dinners are a wonderful opportunity to connect with everyone before the big day. It’s a time when the formal jitters haven’t quite set in. The atmosphere is relaxed and full of genuine excitement. Getting to know the couple’s inner circle—their parents, siblings, and best friends—allows me to blend in and capture the day from a more personal perspective. For Jordan and Matt, this was especially true. They wanted a mix of fun, guided portraits and plenty of candid shots of their guests. This evening provided the perfect setting for both.

The evening started with some beautiful portraits on the docks at the iconic Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing. The classic architecture and the serene lake created a timeless backdrop for Jordan and Matt. We then boarded The Adirondac for a cruise. While on the boat, we captured more portraits of the couple against the breathtaking expanse of Lake George. Even a little bit of rain couldn’t dampen the mood. In fact, it held off just long enough for us to finish our photos on the deck. We finished before we moved inside for the main event.

Once inside, the evening shifted to a series of heartfelt toasts from family and friends. This is often where the most emotional and unscripted moments happen. Capturing the reactions of guests—the tears, the laughter, and the looks of pure joy—is what storytelling is all about. You could feel the love in the room as stories were shared and memories were made. This created a rich collection of images that Jordan and Matt will cherish forever. It was a beautiful reminder that a wedding is not just about one day. Rather, it is about the joining of families and the celebration of a unique love story.
