Matt planned a surprise getaway to Vieques Island in Puerto Rico this past December. I cover hotels as part of my job, so he told me my Christmas present was to visit one of the places I had written about. We were watching the rain from our terrace overlooking the ocean when he got down on his knee. I had been thinking to myself how perfect it would be if he proposed right then, but when it actually happened I was so surprised that all I could say was “Oh my gosh” over and over again. Once I was able to get the word “yes” out, Matt had to remind me that I hadn’t even looked at the ring! Since we couldn’t get much phone reception there, it was our little secret for a couple of days. We felt like the only two people in the world. He even planned for us to stop in Florida, where my family was vacationing, so I could see them before heading home to NYC. We are getting married May 4, 2013, with a reception at the Hall of Springs.
