It’s a Wedding Cake Tasting Extravaganza – The Capital Region

What are some of the moments you’re looking forward to the most on your wedding day? Walking down the aisle? Your first dance? Cutting into your wedding cake as husband and wife? Remember brides, that before you get caught up with the stress and challenges of planning a wedding, to sit back and remember the special moments throughout this process, and especially on the day of. It’s the moments that matter most, so savor every second!

With that said, now we can get down to business. Today I’m focusing on one of the sweetest aspects of planning a wedding…. literally.

I am a self-professed sweet tooth addict. From make your own sundaes at Stewarts as a little girl to my now weekly trips to theBread Basket for cupcakes. I love sugar it’s as sweet and simple as that! I also love, love, love  to bake and have a full pinterest board of recipes from maple frosting cinnamon rolls to the best butter cream frostings.

I’m sure all brides can agree that when it comes to planning your wedding, the perfect referral just might make all the difference, or at the least make it a little easier. The planning process is no joke, and constructing the best day of your life certainly doesn’t happen overnight.  About 50% of my clients are destination-wedding couples, and they ask frequently ask for referrals from cakes to flowers to music.

As your wedding photographer in the Saratoga, lake George area, I like to stay informed on the wedding industry as a whole, so that I can provide my brides with top-notch suggestions and advice for every aspect of their special day.

That’s why I teamed up with the lovely Ashley of Saratoga Food Fanatic and one of my beautiful and talented brides to be, Nikki Gagnon of Corinna Beau Letterpress and Design, to celebrate and sample cakes from seven of the most talented, hard working and dedicated bakers around. Together we coordinated a local wedding cake tasting to supply my brides with some referrals perfect for every brides taste. A huge thank you to Gaffney’s for hosting us in their outdoor patio and to Jordan Baker from Heavenscent Floral Art for the beautiful flower arrangements!

We asked these seven skilled bakers for a sample of either their favorite or most popular wedding cake that was “camera ready”, giving them complete creative liberties, and I have to say, they truly outdid themselves. With options this delicious, you’ll be counting down the minutes after you say “I do” until you can sink your teeth into that first bite of buttery and sugary goodness. Trust me!

Bride-to-be Nikki had this to say:

“I had so much fun at this tasting! Not only did I get to spend my morning with some great girls…. I really got a new perspective on wedding cake!

As someone who is leaning towards a more non-traditional wedding, I had been contemplating whether or not I even wanted to incorporate a wedding cake into my big day. But I have to admit, seeing all of these beautiful cakes in person got me very excited. And tasting them….oh my!

Typically my first thought of wedding cake was always the look and design of them. This tasting made me focus on all the other aspects too; the flavor, the texture, the sweetness. It made me realize that although the concept of the cake is a more traditional part of a wedding, the taste and look of the cake don’t need to be. The cake can really be as unique (in appearance and in flavor) and personal to the bride and groom as possible while still keeping a little bit of the tradition intact. This experience was great, and I’m more excited than ever to start planning out my wedding cake!”

My what a lovely ring Nikki! I cannot wait for your wedding day!
